Dr. Carlos Velasco

Competence Center Manager, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT)

Carlos Velasco earned a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the Technical University of Madrid in 1990 and a doctorate in applied mathematics in 1999 from Madrid’s Universidad Carlos III. He is currently a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, where he manages the Web Compliance Center.

Since 1990, Dr. Velasco has held a number of positions at research institutes and companies in the USA, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany. Before joining the Fraunhofer Institute, he was a freelance software development and web technology consultant.

He has managed and supported several national and international R&D projects relating to e-accessibility, including the EU’s completed IRIS projects (Incorporating Requirements of People with Special Needs or Impairments to Internet-based Systems and Services), IDCnet (Inclusive Design Curriculum Network), D4ALL.net (Design for All Network of Excellence) and IPCA (Intelligent Physiological Navigation and Control of Web-based Applications), as well as the current BenToWeb (Benchmarking Tools and Methods for the Web), HearCom (Hearing in the Communication Society) and EU4ALL (European Unified Approach for Assisted Lifelong Learning) research and development projects.
